A Passionate Musician
Fang Yuan is an active guitarist in the United States and abroad as a soloist and also a chamber music member.She was the First Prize of Qingdao National Guitar Competition, and the 9th National Young Artist Instrumental Competition in Beijing.
Fang also appeared at the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival, Qingdao International Guitar Festival and Shonai International Guitar Festival in Japan as soloist.
Recently, she was invited to PJMA 6th Annual Guitar Festival as featured artist, Hongkong Altamira International Guitar Competition as a Judge, and Guitar foundation of American 2021 Symposium as an adjudicator.
In 2019, Fang was selected as an editorial board member for the Guitar Industry Educator Qualification Program of Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China. Her duties Include edit the qualification policy, select audition works, and propose writing exam questions.
Education
From 2013-2017, Fang received her master’s degree and Graduate Performance Diploma from Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University. She was awarded the Graduate Assistant Scholarship during her studies. At Peabody Conservatory, she also had the opportunities to study with a list of world-class guitarists including David Russell, Pepe Romero, Sharon Isbin, Sergio Assad, Marcin Dylla. From 2019, she is pursuing a D.M.A degree at Frost School of Music, University of Miami. She is a recipient of the full-tuition scholarship and Henry Mancini Fellowship.
EDUCATOR
Her Teaching Journey
Fang has been teaching guitar for over 10 years. At Shanghai Conservatory of Music, she was the only one selected in charge of teaching guitar minor students. From 2009-2012, Fang was the director of Bosi Music School in China. She developed strong background in music education, including general music management for over 100 students. She also taught a great number of guitar students in different levels, from beginner to performance level. Her students have won guitar competitions and perform in music festivals such as Gold Prize, 2013 China Qingdao International Ocean Festival Art Competition, and Shanghai Young Students Instrumental Showcase. Fang taught at St. Mary’s College of Maryland from 2017-2019. Currently, she is teaching guitar classes and individual lessons at University of Miami as a teaching assistant.
